Mei from My Neighbour Totoro
I 3D modeled the character Mei from the Ghibli film My Neighbour Totoro for my Design Studio 2 class. There are some stylistic differences due to bringing a 2D character into 3D form. I started by modeling the head and face in Sculptris, then I brought the .obj into Autodesk Maya for quad-drawing and also to model the body. The pigtails were also sculpted in Sculptris and quad-drawn in Maya as well, because they were more organic shapes. The materials were created in Adobe Photoshop with snapshots of the organized UV map. I tried to keep the wireframe clean as our next assignment was to rig the 3D character model.
